May Goals

Happy May, loves! This is my favorite month because not only is everything blooming and coming to life, but it’s also my birth month! This birthday is a big one, and I’m so excited to see what the next year has in store for me. Quick recap on how I did on my April goals: not so good. I read a few books, tried a few new skincare products, cleaned out my drawers and organized my closet and kinda-sorta cut down on drinking. All in all, I’d say I rather enjoyed April. I spent it working on bettering myself in a bunch of different way. Sooo … now on to May goals. I’ve thought long and hard about what things I want to accomplish this month. Keep reading to find out what they are!

So, business first. I’ve been having trouble growing my instagram following. I stay between 190-210 followers, but it never seems to go much higher. I want to look into ways to get me out of this plateau. The ultimate goal is to get more followers and likes on each of my posts. I know that to do this, I need to start taking better pictures. Iphone selfies are not cutting it. I definitely need to do some research to see how other bloggers build up their brand and create a dedicated following. I have my work cut out for me with this goal, but it really is the most important for this month.


I find it so sad that I work for a company that works directly with private foundations and I never give back to my community. I’m surrounded by philanthropy and messages of giving back all day, everyday and I need to start living that. I am so #blessed with everything in my life and, recently, I’ve been feeling like I need to make a change and give back. I’m not sure 100% yet what I will do to fulfill this goal this month, but most likely I will lend some time to my local animal shelter (bc I’m a crazy dog lady …). I also want to get involved in some kind of walk or 5K or something that benefits a good cause, like autism. I’ll keep you posted on this!

So last month I said I was going to redo my dresser. Surprise – I never did it. Those dressers are in serious need of an upgrade, though, so this has to be done. I mentioned last month that I have a vision for how they will turn out, so we’ll see if I can actually re-create it. If not, I have been secretly squirreling away money to buy some new ones if I totally ruin the ones I have now (I’m a pinterest fail waiting to happen, tbh). I think instead of using chalk paint, though, I might just spray paint them silver? I’m currently researching all the videos on YouTube for this project …

bedtime yoga.png

I used to always do bedtime yoga. It really is very relaxing and helps you sleep better – so for anyone who struggles with falling asleep and staying asleep, I recommend doing this. I just watch the bedtime yoga videos on YouTube (usually Yoga with Adrienne) and I sleep like a baby. Plus, I was feeling better when I woke up. It is not strenuous on your body, like a regular yoga session might be. It is so peaceful. I find it difficult to find the time to dedicate to doing it, though. It takes about 20 minutes before bed. Realistically, I should just cut out the time that I spend watching TV before bed and I could still go to sleep at the same time. This month, I want to do bedtime yoga at least 3 nights a week and see if I feel a difference in my day-to-day.

This goal is oddly specific, but really it is pretty broad. When I say I want to try a new coffee place, I really mean I want to start paying closer attention to local businesses in my town. I’m a Dunkin girl – but there are so many wonderful little coffee shops where I live. With a father who owns a small business, I think it is important to live local and use local providers for as many things as I can. I want to try a new coffee shop, a new book store (sorry Barnes & Noble), a new salad place, etc. I want to explore small business where I live and find better options than always using big corporations.

I need a me day. Like I said, this month is my birthday month – so I double deserve a me day. I’ve decided I will do all the things I love. It is so important to unplug and focus on yourself for a little while. I think sometimes we hustle so hard that we forget to do it. It is hard to carve out time when there are so many other things to do. There will always be calls to return, emails to respond to, deadlines to make, but I only have this one life, and while I want to be successful and have a career I am proud of, I also want to enjoy my time with my friends, family and baby puppy children. I haven’t had a real me day in quite a while, so I am so looking forward to one this month!


And as always, I want to read at least 2 books. The first book I am going to read is “Year of Yes” by Shonda Rhimes. I have a slight obsession with Shonda recently. I’ve always loved How To Get Away With Murder, but I’ve recently gotten into Scandal and I can’t stop watching it. I think Shonda is a legit genius. So, I am going to read her book. I’m sure I’ll become even more obsessed and try to become her or something…

My second book is Stephen Colbert’s “I Am America (And So Can You).” I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it, but I love books by comedians. Mostly because I wish I could be a comedian, so I feel some sort of kinship reading their book and pretending they, personally, are telling me all of these funny anecdotes and no one else (do I sound stable?).
